Japanese Title: Arisu 19th
Length: 7 volumes
Created by: Yu Watase
Characters:
Summary: Alice Sena is known as little more than Mayura's little sister. Everyone knows Mayura, including Kyo, the boy that Alice likes. Aside from preferential treatment at school, Mayura is spoiled at home and is the reason that Alice cannot get a pet (Mayura has allergies). One day, Alice is going to school when she sees a rabbit in the middle of the road. Alice grabs the rabbit to save it and is almost hit by a car herself, when Kyo jumps in and saves them both. The rabbit runs off and Kyo is determined to find the rabbit for her. Alice finds the rabbit first, and discovers that the rabbit can talk and change form. The rabbit is named Nyozeka, and she tells Alice that she is the Lotis Master. In the meantime, Mayura tells Kyo that she likes him and they become boyfriend and girlfriend. Jealous of her sister's courage to tell Kyo what she herself couldn't, she becomes very angry and says, "I wish you would just disappear." The next thing she knows, Mayura has vanished and Alice must go on a mission to find her sister, armed only with the words of the Lotis Master.
Commentary: You can really tell that this is by the woman who wrote Fushigi Yugi. Alice reminds me a lot of the story of Miaka, but that does not make Alice 19th unoriginal. I really like it, mostly because it is like Fushigi Yugi. I really enjoy the story and the characters, and love the fantasy-world theme tied into the modern world that Yu Watase is so skilled on creating.
Rating: 9.5/10
Reasons for Rating: Great story and characters, if you liked
Fushigi Yugi, you'll like Alice 19th.
